Danish education for foreigners

As a newly arrived international citizen residing in Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality, you are, in most cases, entitled to receive a referral to the official Danish Education.

If you are a self-sufficient citizen

As an employee, student, accompanying family member, cross-border commuter, au pair, etc. you will be offered the official Danish Education if you are over 18 years, and:

  1. Live in Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality and have a CPR (central person registration) number, or
  2. Live in Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality and exercise your right to free movement based on EU regulations, or
  3. Are a cross-border commuter from an EU/EEA country, or Switzerland, or
  4. Are a citizen from the Nordic country, or
  5. Danish born overseas from Greenland or the Faroe Islands may be entitled to a Danish Education, if Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality considers it necessary, or
  6. Danish citizens who lived abroad, and due to their long term stay abroad, do not master the Danish language, or
  7. Children over 18 years born by danish citizens living abroad and due to their long term stay abroad do not master the danish language.

There are no Danish language requirements to attend a Danish Education.

Cooperation with Language School

In Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality, our language School provider is AOF Job og Dansk, but you are entitle to choose another language school if you prefer.

You are entitled to 3½ years Danish Education within a 5 year periode.

Teaching

The Education is free but in order to start your Danish Education, you are required to pay a deposit of DKK 2.000. The deposit is to be paid directly to your chosen language school. Should you complete the various modules within the allocated timeframe, your deposit will be reimbursed to you. If you don’t complete the various modules within the allocated timeframe, you will lose you deposit and in order to start your next module, you will have to pay a new deposit of DKK 2.000.

If you are in Denmark as an au-pair, you do not have to pay the deposit.
